Don't write prompts with a movie-making mindset

Most people start by writing "an astronaut running on Mars, movie-level lighting, 4K quality" — only to get a blob of moving mush. Pika's ability to parse complex semantics is actually quite limited. The more abstract and "cinematic" the prompt, the more likely the result is to spiral out of control.

For stable output, it's best to only describe specific, single actions and clear objects. "A person standing up from a chair" is more likely to succeed than "A middle-aged man rising with a tired expression." Try to keep colors, background, and lighting to no more than three variables. Here's a trap that's easy to overlook: when generating in batches, the character's appearance, clothing texture, and lighting angle between consecutive segments are almost impossible to keep perfectly consistent. One or two shots may not show the issue, but once you exceed three segments, the style gap becomes very obvious. If you're making a narrative video that requires continuity, it's best to accept from the start that "each segment is just raw material" rather than expecting a finished product in one go.

"AI video doesn't need aesthetics" is wrong

Many people think that since AI generates automatically, they just need to type. But Pika's dependence on input reference images is greater than you might imagine. Completely zero-input text prompts often result in mediocre compositions, cluttered backgrounds, and unemphasized subjects.

A more practical approach: have at least one clean background image or a silhouette image ready to upload as the initial frame. If you want wind, it might blow the person into particles. Prefer using the environment in the reference image to imply these effects rather than letting AI guess from scratch.

Choose Pika or wait for Sora? Figure out what you need first

Many people are currently torn between Pika and Sora. Actually, these two aren't exactly the same kind of product at the moment. Sora's demonstrated capabilities lean more toward world-model-style long video generation, but when it will be released, the price, and whether it's commercially viable are all unknowns. Pika's advantage is that it's available now, iterates quickly, and has many community templates.

But conversely, if you need extremely high-quality shots, complex physics simulations, or multi-character interactions, current Pika will likely disappoint you. Its strength lies in combinations like "single subject + simple background + limited action." If you want to make a short narrative clip, you'll have to accept a lot of post-production splicing and material selection. During this process, you'll delete at least 70–80% of the garbage clips, and some of them are pretty funny — like a character suddenly melting into the ground.

My advice: don't treat Pika as a final video production tool; it's more like a motion effect material generator. Using it for dynamic backgrounds, dynamic UI elements, or short loop footage works very smoothly. But if your core need is to "tell a complete story," it's better to first draw your hand-drawn storyboards and wait for more mature products to come out.
